Project Overview

“Music is the essence that we all should ALLOW in our life and simply enjoy!” -Anonymous

Streaming music is one of the most popular ways of consuming music. Music is an experience

Amazon Music

Amazon Music is a music streaming platform operated by Amazon. It aims to provide users high-quality music everywhere and improve the music listening experience. Music lovers have access to 100 million songs ad-free and thousands of playlists and stations. They can shuffle, play any artist, album, or playlist from their expanded music catalog and discover new music based on their likes.

Problem

Amazon Music

Music lovers like discovering new music and/or artist to curate their different playlist for different moods and/or occasion but often get bored by listening to the same music. Discovering new music is challenging. As people get older, they have less opportunities to search for something new. It is time consuming, especially for music lovers who live a busier life.

Solution

To design a feature that allow users to discover new music and/or new artist in an interactive and engaging way without leaving the Amazon Music app. Through this music lovers will be able to discover and build a community with other music lovers.

01. Emphasis

Emphasis

I wanted to understand the users streaming habits and major pain points user’s experience. I read REAL customers reviews, spoke to music lovers, conducted a survey and looked at what similar companies were doing. Through this it gave me better insights on what the ideal user will be.

Objectives

  • Understand the brand, what they do and what they provide.

  • Learn about the users relationship with music.

  • Understand how user interact with music streaming apps.

  • Determine major pain points regarding stream music.

  • Determine what motivates users to continue using streaming apps.

Knowing The Brand
Untitled design-2.gif

I wanted to understand more about about Amazon Music. Amazon Music users have access to a massive amount of current and back-catalog songs and albums and can create their own playlists that can be shared. They uses listening habits to create recommendations: new artists, albums, curated playlists and more, to help users easily find something good to play. Amazon Music works with Alexa voice control, allowing you to do things like skip tracks, pause, or ask it to play something, all with voice commands.

02. Define

Define

After gathering all the insights, I was able to create two personas that fit the ideal user. Not only did I create those personas but I really wanted to have a deeper understanding on how those ideal user will interact with the feature.

Meet Olivia!
A creative soul who who uses music for inspiration

Meet Johnny!
A music lover who loves discovering new artist.

Paper Wireframe to Digital

I quickly sketched some ideas on how the some of the screen will look like. After making corrections I create digital wireframes to have a more accurate depiction of the application.

Next Step

The challenges that I had was the time constraint on this project. I only had 2 weeks to complete this project. It was thrilling but also difficult. Time management was my best friend and I had to really figure out the best way to approach this. I had to remind myself that it is ok to STOP…BREATHE…and take a BREAK.

If I had more time these are some of the thing I would like to do next:

  • Another round of usability testing, to continue testing the functionality of the application

  • Base on user research, adding a feature to learn more about new artist and how to discover new artist
